Set Your Intention

Set your intention for your fast and don’t allow others to deter you from your spiritual goals regardless of how much they protest.

The Alabaster Box

The women who broke the alabaster box, pouring the precious ointment on Jesus’ head, had her intention set.  She didn’t allow the ridicule of onlookers to deter her.  When bystanders became indignant, viewing the use of the ointment as a waste of a precious resource,  their protest didn’t stop her.  She knew full well that she had entered the home of a Pharisee, where Jesus was, and she knew that they viewed her as a sinner.  Regardless of those things she continued with her intent, “and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.”  As a result, Jesus said, “And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.””  Jesus honors those that honor him.

Supporting Scriptures

Mark 14:3-5 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. 4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? 5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

Luke 7:37-38 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, 38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

Drink Lots of Water

Drink lots of water. Water is essential when starting a fast.  It helps to flush toxins from your body, thereby cleansing your entire system.  Drink 16 ounces of water first thing in the morning.  Keep a bottle of water with you at all times so you can sip throughout the day.  The health authorities commonly recommend eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters, or half a gallon. This is called the 8×8 rule and is very easy to remember.

Daniel Fast – Benefits of Eating Bananas

Bananas are convenient and inexpensive. They’re a quick treat for those on the go.  Reach for a banana instead of those chips that you’ll be giving up while on the Daniel Fast.

Bananas Also Contain Fiber, Which May Reduce Blood Sugar Spikes. In addition to starch and sugar, a medium-sized banana contains 3 grams of fiber. Everyone, including diabetics, should eat adequate amounts of dietary fiber due to its potential health benefits[1].

The medicinal benefits of bananas are attributed to their rich vitamin, mineral, and organic compound content. Bananas have been considered one of the healthiest options for fruit consumption for many years due to their impressive nutritional content, which includes vitamins like vitamin C, vitamin B6, riboflavin, folate, pantothenic acid, and niacin, as well as trace amounts of other vitamins. In terms of minerals, bananas deliver a significant amount of potassium, manganese, magnesium, and copper. Bananas are also good sources of dietary fiber and protein[2].

Fasting as a Sacrifice

New Life 21 Days Prayer & Fasting 2018
The 21 day prayer and fasting journey is a sacred time between you and God.  Fasting is not just about the food.  Focusing on the food defeats the purpose of fasting.  Instead, set your focus on God while seeking his guidance.  Make it a point to set your intention and remain mindful of the desired outcome.

Things to Consider While Fasting

  • Avoid secular television and radio programs.
  • Give up social media or anything that would be a sacrifice for you personally.
  • Pray. Your days should be filled with unselfish prayer. During the fast, increase the frequency of your daily prayer time by a factor of three or more.
  • Reserve time with God during the day by studying the Bible.
  • Seek the Lord diligently for the answers to your prayers.
  • Ask God for guidance in your life.
