Illuminating Truth Part 1

John 16:13 KJV Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Be careful, whenever somebody says “I know what the Bible says, but…”  They are going in the way of error.  Walk away. Did you hear me?  Walk away.  Jesus was saying that one of the purposes in the life of a believer is to illuminate Truth.

John 16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

[In other words,] You cannot handle it right now.  It’s a little bit too much for you right now.  And that is when Jesus says, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come.”  He says don’t worry; the Holy Ghost will lead you and guide you into the whole truth.

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

Before anybody becomes confused, the Comforter that Jesus is referring to is the Holy Ghost.  It is not another spirit.  The ‘Comforter’ is another way that God would reveal Himself when He says, “another comforter.”  The Holy Ghost is Jesus.

John 14:13-18  (KJV)

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Jesus is the Holy Ghost that is working in the life of every believer.  The disciples did not understand this to be another person. The ‘another’ was the Spirit of the divine Christ that would dwell in them. Jesus was trying to bring comfort to his disciples.  Some of them had grown accustomed to walking with Jesus for three years while other became Jesus’ followers a bit later.  The disciples were accustomed to Jesus being with them in the physical body, but on the Day of Pentecost, it was the first time the disciples prayed together without the physical presence of Jesus.  The disciples were to move forward by faith, to obtain the promise of the Holy Ghost, as they followed Jesus’ instructions given to them before His ascension (Acts 1:1-9).
