Daniel Fast – Potatoes For Dinner

The potatoes pictured in this post were baked, cooled, cut into squares then sautéed with a tablespoon of coconut oil and seasoning. This is a very simple meal to prepare and the results are delicious!

2 medium baked Yellow Potatoes
1-2 cups sliced Mushrooms
1 medium Tomatoes
5 stems Green Onion
1 tbsp. Coconut Oil

Garlic Powder

After the potatoes, mushrooms, tomatoes, and green onions are cut and sliced, add the coconut oil to a sauté pan with the potatoes and mushrooms. Sautee in medium heat. After five minutes or when the mushrooms are tender, add the tomatoes and green onions. Next, add the seasoning and sauté for another three minutes.

The potatoes were baked and refrigerated the previous day but they don’t need to be prebaked. You can use raw potatoes instead.  Cook them separately in high heat before adding other ingredients. You can substitute the coconut oil with half a cup of water or 1-2 tbsp. of olive oil.

Here is a Perfect Sautéed Potatoes Recipe that includes olive oil. Only natural oils are allowed on the Daniel Fast. Keep in mind that processed oils and deep fried foods are not allowed.

The image doesn’t display the entire quantity cooked.  There were leftovers for lunch the next day that were reheated with a cup of peas.

Don’t forget to schedule some extra time to pray for your needs and for the salvation of your friends and family.

Daniel Fast – Sam’s Choice Quick Cook Barley & Quinoa

Today I tried Sam’s Choice Quick Cook Barley & Quinoa. The advertisement states that this product may be used for sweet or savory meals.  As part of my Daniel Fast eating plan, it was predetermined that I would have this for breakfast, so this morning I started by following the package instructions.  After it was cooked, I added cinnamon, banana, walnuts and almonds to the barley and quinoa mixture.

I have to admit, this was not one of my favorite meals.  The barley and oats were a little bland and the water added to boil turned slightly bitter.  It could have used a little more sweetness for sure. Adding grapes or blueberries might have helped.

I’m concluding that this product should not be written off but might be better served as a savory meal instead.  Next time I’ll try adding vegetables to it for a lunch or dinner meal.  I will keep you posted.

Daniel Fast – Rely On God

Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

During your time on earth, you’re only going to have one body and one mind. Although you may feel well and good right now, your body and mind need to last a lifetime, so take good care of both. Let’s focus on the body for a moment. Your body is not evil. Your body is a holy vessel that houses the Spirit of God. As stated in 1 Corinthians 6:19, your body is on loan, and it doesn’t belong to you. You were bought with a price, meaning that God has invested a great deal into you, so make good on his investment.

1 Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

I’m sure you’ve heard of the term “garbage in and garbage out.” Whatever you put into any system, it will produce similar results. Your body is no different. You may be well-meaning and enthusiastic in your desire to serve God but if you are running on the wrong fuel or break down how much good can you produce? How effective will you be? 1 Corinthians 6:12 says “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.” In other words, just because it’s convenient to have donuts in the morning, french fries for lunch and pizza for dinner doesn’t mean you should. The Apostle Paul says, “I will not be brought under the power of any” because he is relying on the power of the Holy Spirit to help him do what is right and good.  That’s why it’s so important to pray, fast and read. It keeps us connected to God’s strength and power.

1 Corinthians 16:13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.

Daniel Fast -Not Your Usual Breakfast

This is not your usual breakfast.  Salad is not the first thing that most people think about in the morning, but the New Life Prayer and Fasting Journey is an unusual time, requiring us to do unusual things. Whatever your prayer and fasting goals are they will require a change. Change demands us to stop doing what we normally do by replacing our old habits with new ones.

The word fast in Hebrew means to abstain from food.  The purpose of fasting is to demonstrate repentance and making supplication to God through self-denial, allowing the Spirit of God to predominate.   It is a time to prioritize the Spirit over the flesh.

Don’t worry, I’m not advocating that you have salad for breakfast but in preparing for the Daniel Fast I wanted to give this a try.  I took the baked sweet potato recipe from the previous day and modified it.  Baked sweet potatoes were already in my refrigerator so I peeled and cut one up into squares, then I sautéed the squares with 2 tsp of coconut oil while adding salt, pepper, garlic and Kirkland Organic No Salt Seasoning.

For the salad I added Organic Spring Mix, tomatoes, avocado, peas and walnuts.  I drizzled a tiny bit of extra virgin olive oil over the salad and with fresh lemon juice.  Lemon is a quick and easy dressing for salads anytime.

Honesty the savory sweet potatoes with the salad was delicious.  I almost wish I ate this way all the time.  All it takes is a little bit of planning.

Encourage Someone

When I started attending church at Merced New Life, a friendship began to develop between myself and a mature and faithful saint.  As I continued on my journey towards Christ, this person was always encouraging me and teaching me about the ways of God.  In addition, this God-fearing individual was continually telling me that I was intelligent, capable and a great example for others.  At first, the accolades were difficult to accept.  I thought that maybe I really had this person fooled, but as time passed, I started acting on the words of this saint.  Little by little these words became a self-fulfilling prophesy as my conduct, habits, and life began to change for the better.  I started doing the work that was required to develop my skillsets in relation to communication, interpersonal relationships, and leadership.

This saint has helped me to believe in myself and the abilities that God had already given me.  Sometimes, all it takes is one person to believe in you and encourage you.  With the support of others, we can overcome any obstacle and even move mountains.

As we begin this 2018 Prayer and Fasting Journey, please take the time to encourage someone in their pursuit of holiness, seperation, development and growth.  You will be blessed by it.

Proverbs 11:25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

Philippians 2:4  Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Daniel Fast – Cooked Oatmeal

Since oatmeal is a grain, it’s a permissible food on the Daniel Fast. However, packaged oatmeal should be avoided. Packaged oatmeal products often contain sugars, artificial chemicals, and food additives which are things to stay away from. Also, sweeteners are not allowed on the Daniel Fast. Adding honey, sugar or sugar substitutes to your oatmeal is not an option. Instead, try adding your favorite fruit and nut toppings to home-cooked oatmeal. Toppings such as bananas, walnuts, almonds, strawberries, blueberries, raisins or pears. You may even add cinnamon and nutmeg for flavor if you’d like.

Oatmeal Benefits

According to Daily Natural Remedies, whole foods like oatmeal are often recommended for their beneficial effects on the digestive tract. While it’s known for its high fiber content, oatmeal is an excellent option to consider in terms of satiation and delayed gastric emptying. Along with a large quantity of fiber, oats offer many different nutrients and are low on calories.
